It's Saturday 7th Aug 2010. Gene and Ange did a 10km run this morning while I stayed at home, had a shower and shave and got breakfast ready for their return. They ran about 12kms in 1hr 10mins, which is a good effort in between events.

In the last twelve months I’ve managed to get a few health issues out of the way.Been diagnosed with
osteoporosis (on medication)
Been told that my thyroid doesn’t work (on medication for life as a substitute for a form of Hashimoto’s disease)
Undergone a TURP operation for an enlarged prostate (out of the play for four weeks – no exercise at all). TURP stands for Transurethral Resection of the Prostate.
All of these medical issues are really only of interest in that they seem to come with age and are not the result of lifestyle, but rather just genetic gifts from my parents. I’m 56yrs old (DOB 24 June 1954) and am generally fit and healthy.I recently (this week) had a blood test and the results were all good (excellent re: sugar, kidney, cholesterol and all other functions) and I expect that my bone density which was low 12 months ago will be better at the next test, following the medication.I also expect to be able to hydrate much more efficiently and effectively, following the prostate operation as I drank very little liquid in the last 2 years, did a stack of interstate flying and completed in events significantly under-hydrated. In addition my transition times where seriously affected by long loo stops. So the second half of 2010 and all of 2011, look like they’ll have their advantages over the 2009/2010 season. Currently its two weeks after the operation and I’m required to take things easy, which is sending me around the twist, but so be it. I have another two weeks of this to go followed by a further two weeks of only moderate exercise/activity.

So I’ll be back in touch in two weeks as I begin the training for the next event. That should be a half marathon to be followed by a Half Iron Man in Husskie in February 2011.Sign off 5.26pm Sat 7Aug 2010
