Knees and running

It's June 2011 and on the 24th of this month I'll be turning 57years old. Age has never been a problem and is still largely irrelevant with life continuing to be an amazing experience.  All of me goes by that little theory - except my right knee, which has been demanding attention and stating a case for some special recognition. My latest visit to the specialist, armed with a recent MRI, left me feeling somewhat ambivalent over the diagnosis and prognosis.  The diagnosis is not that flash in that the knee has osteonecrosis (the bone is dying for some reason - I suspect it was way too much time spent on my knee as a kid in church) and so won't be up for too much running from hereon in. Nonetheless on the prognosis the doc says I'll be fine to do the IM in Busso on the proviso that I keep the running to a minimum in preparation and focus on the swimming and riding.  It's a done deal.

So I'm now having to get my running hit vicariously via Genevieve and Angela.  We're heading to the Gold Coast for the Marathon on Sunday 3rd July and the girls have been training hard to ensure they both do a PB in the big event.  I expect Gene to come home in under 4hrs 15 minutes and Ange to run in just under 4hrs.  I'll keep you posted on their progress.

For me I have a bike fit this coming Monday to ensure all is well with my posture on the bike, so that'll be interesting to see what changes he makes. I'm up to 115km rides each Saturday at the moment and am putting in at least 2 swims a week of 2km or more, and will look to increase that in early August.

That's it for now.  Home to a Thursday night of beef and salad.
